Horizon Health Services - Tophers Trail
For those of you that participated in my 2023 personal project “A Dog’s Life, A Woman’s Story”….WE DID THIS! YOU DID THIS! A portion of each sessions proceeds were donated to Horizons therapy dog program which in turn helped to build Tophers Trail. A tranquil space, outside of Horzions in patient facility where those in recovery can sit, walk and reflect as they focus on rebuilding themselves.
I began this project by sharing my own story. My fathers battle with addiction and mental illness which led to his suicide when I was 12. And the relationship my dog Conan and I had throughout my father’s struggles.
On top of the many battles my family has faced, including losing my sister 2 years ago to alcoholism and the role Horizon played in reshaping my other siblings life, donating to Horizon seemed so very fitting.
Many of the stories the Women of this project shared, also had to do with mental illness, addiction and struggles of their own. Struggles that their dog helped them through.
So, THANK YOU! Thank you for sharing and being so open with your stories. Thank you for allowing others to read and relate. Thank you for helping to normalize talking about these things.
And thank you for still being here because you are loved!
